Who we are:
Kevin Prier has completed his doctoral dissertation in neurobiology, with extensive background in the sciences and math and more than 10 years tutoring and teaching experience from grade school to college level. He started teaching with undergraduate lab courses and graduate level seminars, colloquia, and hands-on practical courses. He has since tutored science, math, and German at the high school and college levels and also works as a medical interpreter in German. His own children are in 5th and 8th grades and have been entirely home schooled. He has been teaching them science and math along with children from other home-schooled families. Kevin was potions master for Homeschool Hogwarts for four years, teaching chemistry as Professor Abraxas. Kevin is committed to promoting not only a basic understanding of a subject, but a real interest in the entire learning process and the deep curiosity that characterizes life-long learners.
Christina Steffy has a master’s degree in English and more than 10 years experience teaching from grade school to college level. Her own children are in 5th and 8th grades and have been entirely home schooled, with Christina in charge of music lessons, history, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and reading. She has a passion for teaching adolescents how to use their new abstract thinking abilities, using literature, history, and writing to explore not what to think but how to think and how to use language in powerful ways.
